Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan is a native of in and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mom has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, young, her father got job as curator at Philadelphia's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family moved into the landmark historical building. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate and a major in the field of vocal music. Sullivan played the contralto singer for the children's choir and then after a couple of years later, she sang as an adult in the choir. Sullivan did not get exposed to secular music at first. "I began singing in solos in church, and somebody was urging me to sign up to a gospel record when I was 11. But I wasn't ready for it," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. In the end, I got the opportunity to perform Accept What God Wills on Showtime Apollo. The audience was extremely enthusiastic." Stevie Wonder sang her part during his 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan had signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. In the age group of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. The label recorded her entire album there, but it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was later dropped by the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott and produced many of the tracks for her debut project, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and composed by Elliott.
